With our heads aflame and our minds adrift, there is some party being cooked up in well, Godskitchen.
BigFish is concocting what is to be this year’s opening salvo for the reintroduction of trance - warming up our ear buds for dancelandia’s No. 3 DJ, Armin Van Buuren (DJ Mag Poll). Since the start of 2007, most dance floors are sizzling with mainstream house music – either we had rehash and remixes or we have Bob Sinclair.
I have enjoyed the previous Godskitchen parties, and am beginning to miss good ole trance music – more feel than house music and more melodic than techno. The journey with trance tells some emotional epic story – a roller coaster ride of heart, mind and psyche – from beginning to end. And when the party is over, you get to remember that story and tell it to your friends like some great no-holds barred adventure to The Beach.
My most memorable Godskitchen party to date was August 2004 with John “00” Fleming (DJ Mag No. 27 for 2004). Looking back at the pictures, I remember the psychedelic and eclectic mix of sound and lights enjoyed by a crowd of 5,000 – building up some great vibe and perhaps sharing the same emotional epic story to tell. Great crowd, even greater experience!
It has been a year since we had a proper rave, with most of the dance events staged at the club. Godskitchen has all the right ingredients to bring back our love for the party and what a better way to enhance our liking for trance but having DJ John Askew (www.djjohnaskew.com), whose collaborations with Paul Van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and Eddie Halliwell makes him a certified trancemiester.
I’ll see you all at the kitchen!!!
PS.
In the early 1990’s, while trying to come up with a name for their new house night, promoters John Swift and Cheeky observed that the best house parties always seem to gravitate around the kitchen. They soon concluded that the very best parties would be held in God's kitchen, hence the strange name.
